Research Work on Wall Painting in the Church "Ascension of the Blessed Virgin", Matka, Skopje Region

An expert team from NI Conservation Centre Skopje began conservation research works on the wall painting in the church "Assumption of the Blessed Virgin" village Matka, Skopje region, by taking samples from the mortar and probe research of the fresco painting, a process that will enable the development of a conservation-restoration project. The church was built around the middle of the 14th century and painted, but after the establishment of Turkish rule in Macedonia, the roof and fresco painting were damaged. Towards the end of the 15th century, the roof was repaired with an added narthex and it was painted again.
