Aqueduct Skopje

The Government of the Republic of North Macedonia, at the proposal of the Administration for Protection of Cultural Heritage and the opinion of the National Council for Cultural Heritage, at today's session adopted a Decision to proclaim the Aqueduct monument in Skopje as cultural heritage of special significance, subcategory exceptional significance. The decision followed the adopted elaboration for revalorization of the monument, a process that had been stalled in the competent institutions for many years. The revalorization of the Aqueduct also covers the issue of categorization of the property according to its significance, and with it the issue of the protection regime. The decision enables the permanent preservation of the Aqueduct and its values in a cultural and historical sense, as well as in relation to the protection of architecture, the social, educational, tourist and economic aspect of the site. This finally enables the start of its physical protection. With the adoption of the Decision, the Aqueduct is counted in the constitutional category "properties of general interest for the Republic of North Macedonia" and enjoys special protection in terms of the Constitution and the Law on Protection of Cultural Heritage.
